Dec 27, 2020 · One thing I really like about this set-up is that the tall sights co-witness with the red dot. I normally don’t care for tall sights, but with an optic, the tall sights work perfectly. Having iron sights co-witnessed with the red dot optic gives peace of mind that whatever happens, you’ll always be able to place accurate shots.

Place a target 13 yards away. Get a good rest, aim at the bull’s-eye and nudge the trigger. If the bullet is off the mark, adjust your sights and shoot again. Once you are taking out the X in the center of the bull’s-eye, you now have a rifle, which will be dead-on at about 75 yards, just a tad low at 100 yards and a smidgen high at 50 yards.

With iron sights, you always want your target perched on top of the front bead. Do not cover the bull with the bead. Try shooting at the smallest bull you can see at 50 yards and set it right on top of the post in your sight picture. edit: I mis-spoke earlier in stating to focus on the target not the sights,

Jul 13, 2016 · Depends on how well you can see those sights/bulls eye at 100 yards. I've been lucky to have kept decent eye sight with open sights, but I still like them to be at least 2" group at 100 yards for hunting accuracy. I always kick myself in the rear end and try to do groups like this ALL the time, but some times, its just not in me.
I sight mine in 1" high at 50 yards. I can aim dead on out to about 150 yards. Plenty for where I hunt. I have see thru rings, which I don't like from a long range accuracy standpoint, but I love being able to use my iron sights if a deer comes in at less than 20 yards. I sight my irons in for 20 yards.
I just had some Williams iron/open sights put on my Ruger 77 Hawkeye. They're a quality, stout, reliable sight for a fair price. Reason being is I plan on doing some black bear hunting behind hounds and shots can be close and quick. Not to mention I like having irons on a rifle as back up.
I've been considering changing from open sights to a peep sight on my Traditions Deerhunter rifle. I found a Williams Peep that will fit an octogon barrel. I see that a few folks have peep and or ghost ring sights. I've never had one, only iron sights or scopes. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks in advance.

Oct 23, 2020 · A C. Sharps High wall, in 45-70 set up for iron sights or a scope, this has been his main rifle for 2020 . A Shiloh, which he admittedly hasn’t used much lately. A CTA rifle as a backup iron-sighted rifle. When using a scope, he’s enjoying his DZ Arms 8 power scope, it gives him enough to see and isn’t distractingly overpowered.
I'd like to replace the rear sight with a newer and nicer one that's adjustable for elevation and windage. I was thinking of something like what's on my 10/22, but that sight is getting hard for my older eyes to see. I'm not ready to give up (yet) and go to actual optics. I'd like to stick to iron sights if I can. Call me old fashioned. . .

But for those without a dot, knowing your iron sights is pretty crucial. I shot a dot-scope for a few years, but gave that up and went back to open sights on my pistols. I like them, and I like that it takes more practice and discipline to use them. So, here's what I know about shooting with iron sights.

Sep 09, 2018 · I generally bore sight at 50 yards. I find that 25 yards are often too close. Remember, your scope is likely about 1.5 inches higher than the bore and at 25 yards you will very likely not see the same target spot. Set up the rifle on a rest or sandbags and look through the bore and line it up with your chosen target.
